Paper Water Lilies, really bloom in water
These lovely water lilies really open up and seem to bloom in water! This is by far one of our favorite homeschool lessons.
Making the lilies was simple. Using the book All Year Round for inspiration, I cut out the leaf and water lily shapes. Without telling the kids what we were doing, I gave them each a flower and we colored them with crayons. I told them to color the flower anyway they liked, but to leave the back blank.

Bedtime Birthday Verse
My mother use to say this verse to us the night before our birthdays. I’ll never forget the feeling I got calling her up to ask how it went, so that I could share it with my own daughter.
Now the kids anticipate it and often remind me of how many kisses they will get on their birthdays for a few days in advance.
When I have said my evening prayer,
And my clothes are folded on the chair,
And mother switches off the light,
I’ll still be ** years old tonight.
But from the very break of day,
Before the children rise and play,
Before the darkness turns to gold,
Tomorrow, I’ll be ** years old.
** kisses when I wake,
** candles on my cake.
Math Boards
Math Boards are one of my favorite things about Waldorf homeschooling. Even our neighborhood kids like to play with it. One day we want to make a giant 100 peg one! A girl can dream 🙂
The math board is used by skip counting with the yarn form peg to peg. As you go around the board lovely geometric shapes appear!
Ray’s Arithmetic
Math is one of my favorite subjects. Lately I have been looking into older more traditional ways of teaching mathematics -which has brought me to Ray’s Arithmetic.
Math in the Morning
This photo is a little old, but I love it. It was the day Audrey discovered the connection between our skip counting and multiplication.
The simple charm of a morning homeschooling. I treasure these days, time is moving so fast.
“Enter the Night”
“Enter the Night”
Enter the night and you’ll find the light,
Enter the night, let your spirit take flight,
On the longest night we search for the light,
So when you find that spark
When you dream in the dark
Hold it close to your heart and know.
All that you see is all that can be
When you give birth to the dreams.
“With My Hands I Clap, Clap, Clap”
With my hands I clap, clap, clap,
With my feet I tap, tap, tap,
One step here, one step there,
Round about as light as air, la, la, la.
With my finger, I tick, tick, tick,
With my head, I nick, nick, nick,
One step here, one step there,
Round about as light as air, la, la, la.
“In soft morning light”
“In soft morning light”
In soft morning light, the stars fade away.
The birds soon awake. This is a new day.
Awake, awake, shine like the sun.
Give light and love to everyone.
Down is the earth, up is the sky.
There are my friends, and here am I.
Good morning to you, and good morning to me.
“The Sun is in My Heart”
“The Sun is in My Heart”
The sun is in my heart,
He (she) warms me with his (her) power.
And wakens life and love
In bird and beast and flower.
On the earth I stand upright
With joy I greet the morning sun
Who shines with love on every one
Who shines in the sky, on the land and sea,
And who fills me with light
When he (she) shines on me.
Good morning to you
And good morning to me.
“I Had a Little Turtle”
I Had a Little Turtle
I had a little Turtle,
His name was Tiny Tim.
I put him in the bathtub,
To see if he could swim.
He drank up all the water.
He ate up all the soap.
Now he’s home sick in bed
With bubbles in his throat.
Bubble bubble bubble
Bubble bubble pop.
