Oobleck

Oobleck is a wonderful and very messy activity. You can grab it fast and it seems solid, then let it turn into a liquid and drip between your fingers. In a warm climate like ours, we let it dry outside and rehydrate it the next day. In cooler areas it might mold if you leave it out.

It has always been a dream of mine to find a source for past-its-expiration-date cornstarch so that we can fill a small kiddy pool with Oobleck and walk on it! A girl can dream.

Ingredients:
1 Cup water
2 Cups cornstarch
a few drops food coloring

Mix together and play!

Vegan “goat” Cheese

Hi,

This is a random little video we made to share out favorite vegan “goat” cheese recipe. It has a lovely sharp flavor because it is really fermented just like real cheese. I use probiotic capsules instead of whey.

It is so easy to make and ready to enjoy the next day!

PS, this is my first ever video post. I was so nervous. Hopefully it will get easier!

Midsummer (Litha) AKA St John’s Day -Pagan

Midsummer, also known as St John’s Day, is the period of time centred upon the summer solstice, and more specifically the Northern European celebrations that accompany the actual solstice or take place on a day between June 19 and June 25 and the preceding evening.

This is a time to celebrate the sun and the blooming, ripening and flourishing all around. Decorating the nature table and house with flowers, images of light and sun and great ways to bring in the season. Bring golds, yellows and fiery colors to the nature table or alter. Spending extra time outdoors, picnicking, camping or just playing at the park. Also there are many wonderful crafts to do in this season that celebrate the sun and summer.

Art bin

Recently I put together a random art bin for the kids to use anytime. It defiantly needs to be organized better, but for now it is working wonderfully. I just put some supplies I don’t mind them using anytime, including some scraps and even recyclables.

I highly recommend it.

Beltane -Pagan

Beltane (/ˈbɛl.teɪn/) is the anglicised name for the Gaelic May Day festival. Most commonly it is held on 1 May, or about halfway between the spring equinox and the summer solstice. Historically, it was widely observed throughout Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man.

Celebrated on May 1st. or beginning the evening before on the last night of April.

There are many ways to celebrate Beltane, but the focus is always on fertility. This day that has a long and sometimes scandalous history.

Maypole dancing is a lovely way to celebrate with children. Making garlands with vines and fresh flowers is also lovely. This is also one of the fire festivals, so holding a bonfire gathering is a great way to celebrate with friends and family.

The alter or nature table can be covered in a green cloth and bright spring colors. Fresh flowers or paper flowers, birds nest or eggs, you can even grow some fresh wheat grass. Tiny fairies or gnomes and butterflies may also be a lovely addition to the table, or little forest creatures. Bringing a candle or image of flames onto the table is a wonderful way to celebrate the fire of this season.
